When THE PROGENY came out last year author J. T. Ellison wrote, “What a fabulous premise—and what a wonderful thriller. Tosca Lee has outdone herself with this twisty, intricate story. I can’t wait for the sequel.” The Progeny opened with Emily Porter waking in a haze, with only a fleeting recollection of the procedure she went through to erase her memory. We learn, as does Emily, that she is really Audra Ellison, a descendent of the Hungarian “Blood Countess” Elizabeth Bathory who killed some 600 people during her reign of terror during the 17th-century. Soon Audra is on the run (she is a progeny) from a secret society that is dedicated to erasing every descendant of Bathory. The Progeny ended with a serious cliffhanger – with us all waiting for the promised part two less than a year later.
Well take note those of you waiting for the sequel, J. T. Ellison included, the wait is over – FIRSTBORN is here!
Firstborn starts right as the previous book reached its ending moments, right as Audra learns that secret of who and what she is. Audra is a member of the Progeny, and the rival Scions with their elite Hunters seek to destroy Audra and her baby. Using her super powers: the ability to change the minds of others, Audra hunts down her archenemy, the Historian. She hopes to put an end to the war between the Progeny and the Scions. But how far is she willing to go to end the blood feud and free herself of the fear and uncertainty that all progeny face?
Firstborn is a thrilling and upbeat conclusion to The Progeny. It is a classic tale of good and evil and I highly recommend both books in the series. They can be read alone, but the best way to experience the depth of the story and the characters is to read them in order.
