VJ Books Presents Author Steve Hamilton
Steve Hamilton was born and raised in Detroit. At age 12, he tried, to sell a short story to a mystery magazine. Although he was unsuccessful, Hamilton's passion for writing was undiminished. While studying Computer Science at the University of Michigan he won the prestigious Hopwood Award for fiction, but after graduating, he got a job at IBM and lost track of his writerly aspirations for a time.
Ten years later, Hamilton set his mind back to writing and joined a writers' group to help him get going. He published his first novel A Cold Day in Paradise in 1998, featuring reluctant private eye Alex McKnight. The book won the Private Eye Writers of America/St. Martin's Press Award for best first mystery by an unpublished writer, the Mystery Writers of America Edgar Award for best first novel, and the Private Eye Writers of America Shamus Award for best first novel.
Twenty years later, there are 10 books in the Alex McKnight Series, and Hamilton has also published several stand-alone titles, a number of short stories, and the first few noels in the Nick Mason series. His work has earned him numerous literary distinctions, including the Michigan Author Award, for his body of work.
Hamilton currently lives in upstate New York with his wife, Julia, and their two children.
