VJ Books Presents Author Robin Burcell!
A Note from John about Robin Burcell: "Years ago while in San Francisco I watched the shooting of a scene for a new TV show near Ghirardelli Square. Later that day at Scoma's in Fisherman's Wharf I was seated at a table close enough to one of the actors in that shoot to overhear his conversation. The TV show, The Streets of San Francisco, debuted on ABC in 1972, and the actor at the next table was Michael Douglas.
That hit series started with a pilot movie of the same title was based on the detective novel Poor, Poor Ophelia by Carolyn Weston. Weston wrote two additional novels in the series, and receives script credit for several of the 119 episodes that followed. Carolyn Weston died in 2001.
In THE LAST GOOD PLACE, bestselling author Robin Burcell revives the series returning to the streets of San Francisco breathing new life into this classic police procedural. Her clear love and understanding of Carolyn Weston's original characters and their dynamics make for a complex, compelling, and ultimately satisfying tale.
Al Krug and his partner, hotshot rookie Sgt. Casey Kellog, investigate the murder of Trudy Salvatori, who was attacked and strangled while jogging on San Francisco's Presidio Promenade trail. Trudy's best friend and neighbor, Marcie Valentine, was also jogging the trail a short ways behind her and is among the first to come across her body. The case at first appears to be the work of a serial killer dubbed the Landmark Strangler, but doubts quickly arise.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It rings with realism while returning us to a time when police procedures were somewhat different than they are now. Don't miss this or Robin's Burcell's debut work with Clive Cussler, PIRATE."
Burcell is an FBI-trained forensic artist who has worked in law enforcement for over two decades as a police officer, hostage negotiator and a detective, investigating sexual assault, child abuse, crimes against persons, and crimes against property, and welfare fraud.
Burcell has testified as an expert in the fields of forensic art, fingerprints, and child abuse. An FBI Academy-trained forensic artist, her drawings have been used to solve a number of crimes, including homicides, bank robberies and hate crimes, and she was called upon by the various Valley law enforcement entities, including the FBI, for this skill. She has worked with live witnesses, and the dead, sometimes having to set up shop in a morgue to draw the corpses for identification purposes after they have been found in a state beyond recognition (hence the term forensic artist).
