VJ Books Presents Author Rick Riordan!
Rick Riordan was born in 1964 in San Antonio, Texas. He attended the University of North Texas and the University of Texas, Austin, studying music, English, and history. While in college, he was also the lead singer in a folk rock band. He then got a teaching certificate in English and history at the University of Texas, San Antonio.
Riordan published his first novel, Big Red Tequila, in 1997, while working as a teacher. The resultant series won him an Edgar, an Anthony, and a Shamus award. He continued the series and his teaching career for years, but after starting the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series for younger readers, he found that keeping up with writing both series was a full-time job in and of itself and retired from teaching. Riordan has found himself in the #1 position on the New York Times Bestseller List, and his books have sold over 30 million copies in the US alone. His latest novel, The Sun and The Star, continues to explore the universe he began with Percy Jackson.
Riordan currently lives in Boston with his wife and their two children.
