VJ Books Presents Author Richard Lange!
Richard Lange is the award-winning author of both short stories and novels. His short story “Apocrypha” won the 2015 Short Story Dagger from Great Britain’s Crime Writers’ Association and his second novel, Angel Baby, won the 2013 Hammett Prize.
His latest novel, Rovers is a fast-paced thriller following two immortal brothers as they crisscross the American Southwest to elude a murderous biker gang and protect a young woman. In an interview with Modern Signed Books podcast host Roger Nichols, Lange explains how the idea for the novel was originally meant to be a screenplay but was ultimately dubbed too violent and “weird.” After sitting for nearly 15 years, he picked it up again and sat down to turn it into a novel which he calls “Of Mice and Men with vampires.” You can listen to the entire podcast episode here.
Prior to Rovers, Lange's stories have appeared in The Sun, The Iowa Review, and Best American Mystery Stories, and as part of the Atlantic Monthly's Fiction for Kindle series. He is the author of the collection Dead Boys and the novels This Wicked World and Angel Baby. He received the Rosenthal Family Foundation Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2008 and was a Guggenheim Fellow in 2009.
After receiving a degree in film from the University of Southern California, he traveled to Europe and taught English for Berlitz in Barcelona, Spain. Returning to Los Angeles, he was hired as a copy editor at Larry Flynt Publications and eventually became managing editor of RIP, a heavy-metal music magazine. He later edited textbooks before becoming managing editor of Radio & Records, a radio-industry trade magazine.
Lange was born in Oakland, CA. He currently lives in Los Angeles.
