In 2013 author Matt Coyle introduced us to Rick Cahill, disgraced ex-cop, with a murdered wife with all fingers pointing to him as the killer. Through 8 books we have watched over Rick's shoulder as his life becomes something to write about!

Last night I read the 9th book in the series, DOOMED LEGACY. It opens with Cahill facing down an internal rage caused by CTE, a progressive brain condition that's caused by repeated blows to the head and repeated episodes of concussion.

As his wife and new child flee to Santa Barbara, Rick reluctantly goes back to work, investigating-doing background checks on prospective new hires for his client company. Rick meets with a business associate, Sara Bhandari, his contact in the human resources department for a defense contractor who suspects something is amiss at work.

A few days later Rick goes to Sara's house because she has been unreachable by phone or email. He discovers Sara's mutilated body. Police believe she is the victim of a serial rapist, but Rick's gut tells him that there is something far more sinister at work.

Rick digs deep into the people and events around Sara and the client's company, and risks his life and family to bring the truth into the light of day.
