I initially read this book in search of a Crichton-esque novel (RIP Mr. Crichton). This was the first solo novel I read authored by Douglas Preston. Though it was met with skepticism, as I doubted anything could be compared to the late-great M.C., within a few pages, I was hooked and read it from cover to cover in less than a day. This book is written in a way that keeps your heart pounding, the mystery mounting and the excitement building as the search to discover the most captivating and important paleontological find in history reaches critical mass.
This novel caters to many different tastes...mixing scientific research, paleontology, history, murder-mystery, treasure-hunting, and greed into a roller-coaster of a story that anyone with a love of dinosaurs and fossils only wishes could be true.
