VJ Books Presents Author Peter James!
Peter James (born August 1948) is an International best-selling crime thriller novelist and film producer. He was born in Brighton, Sussex, England and was educated at Charterhouse, then Ravensbourne Film School.
In 1970, James began writing a daily 1/2 hour tv program for pre-schoolers. He then moved on to writing science programs, particularly computing and space exploration. From 1971-78, James was fully involved through the jointly-owned production company, Quadrant Films, in writing, producing, financing and distributing movies, mostly in Canada and US.
James' first published piece was a news piece that he sent to Private Eye in 1965 about US inventor Reuben Tice, who was killed when a machine he had invented for de-wrinkling prunes exploded. In 1994, in addition to conventional print publishing, Penguin published his novel, Host, on two floppy discs, billing it as "the world's first electronic novel."
In 1997, together with producer and music writer James Simpson, James co-founded Ministry of Vision Ltd, a film and television development company.
James has won numerous awards including the US Barry Award (2012) for Best British Crime Novel of 2011, Dead Man's Grip.
In addition to supporting numerous charities, his principle interests include Science, Medicine and the Paranormal. He spends a lot of time with police forces for his research, in particular Sussex Police _ and owned a police car which he donated to them in 2008 and on which the livery (alongside the Police markings) changes each year to match the jacket of his latest Roy Grace novel.
His other interests include classic and modern cars, motor racing, aircraft, skiing, running, and golf.
