VJ Books Presents Author Nicholas Sparks!
Nicholas Charles Sparks was born in 1965 in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended the University of Notre Dame on a sports scholarship, graduating with a degree in Business Finance. He began writing novels as a teenager while recovering from a sports injury, and continued writing throughout college.
After finishing his degree, Sparks attempted to get his work published and applied to law schools. Unfortunately, neither pursuit was successful. He tried his hand at a number of other professions, but kept writing all the while. In 1996, his novel The Notebook was sold to a publisher, and the movie rights quickly snapped up by Warner. The book became a New York Times bestseller in only 1 week. Since then, Sparks has published a multitude of romance novels, a dozen of which have been adapted to film or television. He has also published two non-fiction works. You can find signed Nicholas Sparks books and a list of his works below this bio.
Sparks funds scholarships and fellowships for the Creative Writing Program at the University of Notre Dame, and contributed significantly to the initial funding of the The Epiphany School of Global Studies. He also founded the Nicholas Sparks Foundation, which is a nonprofit which strives to improve cultural and international understanding through global education experiences.
Sparks lives in North Carolina and has 3 sons and 2 daughters.
