VJ Books Presents Author Matthew Palmer!
Matthew Palmer is a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Foreign Service, currently serving as Political Counselor at U.S. Embassy Belgrade. While on the Secretary of State's policy-planning staff, Palmer helped design and implement the Kimberley Process for certifying African diamonds as "conflict free". His experience in Africa serves as the foundation for his debut novel, The American Mission, a thriller bringing together intrigue and international politics in the Congo.
He received a Master of Science, National Security Strategy at the National War College, a Master of Arts in Japanese study at the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies at Wesleyan University.
Palmer previously served as the Deputy Director/Mainland Southeast Asia at U.S. Department of State, Director For Europe at National Security Council, and Associate Director of the Policy Planning Staff. He is a five-time winner of the State Department's Superior Honor Award.
His debut novel, The American Mission, features an American diplomat as the protagonist. The American Mission is the first in a series of novels focused on American diplomacy.
His father is Michael Palmer, physician and bestselling author who passed away in 2013. Matthew has two brothers, Luke Palmer and author Daniel Palmer.
