VJ Books Presents Author Lyndsay Faye!
Lyndsay Faye is an international bestselling author known for her Timothy Wilde trilogy that resulted from a fascination with the origins of the NYPD, and Jane Steele in which she re-imagins Jane Eyre as a heroic serial killer who battles for justice.
Her latest novel, The Paragon Hotel, follows “Nobody” Alice James as she flees the Harlem Mafia only to wind up in Ku Klux Klan-plagued Portland, Oregon in 1921.
Faye was nominated for an Edgar Award for both The Gods of Gotham and Jane Steele. She has also been nominated for a Dilys Winn Award, was featured in Best American Mystery Stories 2010, and has been selected by the American Library Association’s RUSA Reader’s List for Best Historical.
She originally moved to Manhattan to audition as a professional actress. She found herself with a lot of free time on her hands after the restaurant where she worked as a day-job was demolished, and this combined with serious disappointment with Sherlock-Holmes-meets-Jack-the-Ripper novel she had been reading led her to pen her own. Her resultant first novel, Dust and Shadow, was published in 2009.
Since then, Faye has allowed writing to take over full time. She has continued writing meticulously researched historical fiction and mysteries, including her Timothy Wilde series.
Faye graduated from Notre Dame de Namur University with a dual degree in English and Performance and then began working as a professional actor in the Bay Area.
She was born in California and grew up in Longview, Washington. Her childhood was a happy one filled with little adventures with her brother and a familial love of reading. As a child she loved classics such as the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Chronicles of Narnia, and, especially, Sherlock Holmes stories.
Faye currently lives in Ridgewood, Queens. When she’s not writing or editing, she is most often cooking, cooing her house plants, nuzzling her cat, or sifting through thrift store racks for designer clothes.
