VJ Books Presents Author Josh Malerman!
Josh Malerman is the bestselling author best known for his novel The Bird Box. Released in 2014, it was his debut novel and earned him the Michigan Notable Book Award as well as nominations for both the James Herbert Award and the Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel. Netflix also adapted the novel into a film starring Sandra Bullock.
In his latest novel, Pearl (previously published as On this, the Day of the Pig), there’s something strange about Walter Kopple’s farm. When his grandson cruelly murder’s one of his pigs, rumors begin that his grandson heard a voice that commanded him to kill...and that voice belongs to Walter’s pig, Pearl. While Walter knows he’s always been afraid of the strangely malevolent Pearl, he’s not sure what to believe. But as madness and paranoia grip the town and the townspeople descend on Walter's farm with violent wrath, they begin to discover that true evil wears a human face.
Malerman has been writing stories since he was a little kid. He started writing novels while on the road with his band, The High Strung, for whom he is the lead singer and songwriter. He says this about those days: “I never saw the books with dollar signs in my eyes. It was no hobby, that’s for sure, it was the real thing and always has been, but I was happy, then, simply writing, and while I blindly assumed they’d be published one day, I had no idea how something like that occurred.” After accumulating nearly 15 drafts left to languish on a shelf, fate (and a good friend) stepped in and Malerman found himself a published author.
Malerman lives in Ferndale, Michigan.
