VJ Books Presents Author John Gilstrap!
John Gilstrap is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. His first novel, Nathan’s Run sold the movie rights to Warner Brothers only two days after the first book rights were sold.
After selling his second book (and movie rights for that one too), Gilstrap decided to write full time. He continued writing novels and began writing screenplays as well. His books have taken him to the New York Times bestseller list on multiple occasions. He has also written a full-length non-fiction title Six Minutes to Freedom with Kurt Muse, the subject of the book, and the only civilian to have been rescued by the Delta Force.
His latest novel, Blue Fire, the second in his Victoria Emerson thriller series, is set in the wake of a global conflict that has devastated America. Those who survived live in a world without technology or governance and ruled by the whims of nature. They look to one woman—single mother and former West Virginia Congressperson Victoria Emerson—to lead and protect those determined to rebuild all they have lost…
Gilstrap loved to write, even as a child. He wrote for his high school's paper, and tried after his undergraduate degree to get into journalism, but found his prospects dismal. While working his various day jobs, Gilstrap secretly kept writing away at his stories. He wrote three full manuscripts before Nathan's Run (1996) was picked up.
Though he wrote full-time for a while following the sale of his second book, Gilstrap went back to the world of safety consulting. He became the Director of Safety for a trade association, and stayed in this position for a decade before going back to being a full-time writer. He also teaches seminars about suspense writing and speaks about his trade at literary events.
Gilstrap graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1979 with a degree in History. He later graduated from the University of Southern California with a masters in Safety Engineering. He has worked as the editor of a trade journal, as an expert in explosives safety and hazardous waste, as a volunteer firefighter, and as the president and founder of a consulting firm.
Gilstrap lives in Fairfax, VA.
