VJ Books Presents Author Joe Ide!
Joe Ide is an American crime fiction writer of Japanese-American descent whose debut novel IQ (2016) received critical acclaim and was included on numerous top ten book lists. It was nominated for the 2017 Edgar Award for Best First Novel by an American Writer.
Ide began his writing career writing screenplays. When he sold his first screenplay, he started writing professionally. He was a successful screenplay writer, but eventually ran out of patience and enthusiasm and left the profession. It was after this that he began writing novels. His first novel, IQ, was published in 2016 and introduced his leading character, Isaiah Quintabe. IQ won the Shamus Award for Best First Private Eye Novel, as well as the Macavity and Anthony Awards for Best First Novel, and has been optioned for cable television. It has since grown into a widely acclaimed series of books.
His latest novel, Fixit, is the sixth book in the IQ series.
Ide grew up in South Central Los Angeles. As a child, he loved Sherlock Holmes stories, and his interest in the genre continued into his adult life. Ide earned a graduate degree in education and spent a brief period working as a school teacher, then as a university educator. He realized education didn’t suit him and became a business consultant and worked in human resources for some time before deciding to write screenplays.
Ide currently lives in Santa Monica, California.
