VJ Books Presents Author Dave Barry!
Dave Barry was born in 1947 in Armonk, New York. He was rather prophetically elected to the near-holy office of class clown during high school, and things only got worse from there. He earned a degree in English from Haverford College, and a few years later began working as a reporter and humor columnist at a local newspaper.
Barry worked for a while teaching writing to business people, and as a copy editor, but was inevitably drawn back into being funny full time. He returned to writing humor columns--a few years later his column was nationally syndicated, and in 1988 he won a Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. A decade later, Barry's first book was published, and he has now written an absurd number of humorous non-fiction volumes as well as a slightly smaller number of novels, which, annoyingly, are also funny.
Barry continued writing columns until 2004, when he reduced his newspaper-related responsibilities to make more time for his family. He continued writing other content, and writing books. His work earned him the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2005. Two of Barry's books inspired the CBS sitcom Dave's World, which ran for 4 seasons, and a couple of his books have been adapted to film.
When not writing, Barry enjoys making music and spending time with his family and dogs. He lives in Miami.
In his latest novel, Swamp Story, actual Florida Man Dave Barry returns with a Florida caper full of oddballs and more twists and turns than a snake slithering away from a gator.
