USA Network Acquires Blake Crouch's Abandon!
It was over ten years ago that I first came to know Blake Crouch when I was introduced by a mutual friend. I had just picked up the first of Crouch's Luther Kite thrillers, DESERT PLACES (2004). I found it raw, taut, suspenseful, shocking, fast paced, terrifying, thrilling, unpredictable, intense and seriously disturbing. I read it cover-to-cover in one sitting. I followed it immediately with the sequel, LOCKED DOORS (2005), and by the time I was done I was hooked. Blake Crouch was added and still remains on my "must read" list.
LOCKED DOORS was followed by ABANDON (2009) and SNOWBOUND (2010). In 2009, I read a short story Crouch had co-authored with J.A. Konrath, SERIAL. It was dark and disturbing. Working with both authors and the illustrator we produced a limited edition chapbook under our Norwood Press imprint.
About this time Blake left the main stream following his friend and co-author, J. A. Konrath, into the world of self-publishing. I followed him, devouring each new story. In 2011 came RUN. Once again a one sitting read . . . "Five days ago a rash of bizarre murders swept the countryÉ Senseless. Brutal. Seemingly unconnected. People are coming to your house to kill you and your family. You don't know why, but you don't have time to think about that any more. You only have time to run." RUN barely gives the reader time to breathe before it takes off, and maintains the pace to the very last page.
In 2012 we got PINES. Crouch shared an advance copy of this story, and I read it the same day - handed it off to family and staff who also found it so enthralling that they couldn't put it down. Crouch followed PINES with two sequels, WAYWARD and THE LAST TOWN. Then the heavens opened and lightning struck - WAYWARD PINES becomes a mini-series directed by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Matt Dillon, Juliette Lewis, Melissa Leo and Terrence Howard. It is now showing on FOX - receiving great reviews.
Recently announced Couch just sold his novel, ABANDON, to USA Network, with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television on board to produce.
With all the excitement in his world, I hope Blake Crouch finds to write - because I know a bunch of people waiting to see what comes next. Well done Blake!
