VJ Books Presents Author Carole Johnstone!
Carole Johnstone hails from Lanarkshire, Scotland, where she started writing her own stories almost as soon as she could read. In an effort to be “sensible”, she studied science at Glasgow Caledonian University, and after graduating, relocated to Essex, England, to become a radiographer in an NHS hospital. In her thirties, she retrained as a medical physics dosimetrist, but in spite of all this practicality, writing never quite let her go.
Her first short story, "The Morning After", appeared in Black Static in 2007, and since then her short fiction has been published widely around the world. Her work has appeared in numerous anthologies from Titan Books, Tor Macmillan, Simon & Schuster, and many others. She has also written Sherlock Holmes stories for Constable & Robinson, and her short story "Signs of the Times" won a British Fantasy Award.
In 2018, Johnstone elected to take a sabbatical from being sensible and wrote her debut novel, Mirrorland, while living on an island in Greece. Mirrorland was published in 2021 and has already been optioned for television. Johnstone now lives in Argyll & Bute, Scotland, where she now writes full-time and is hard at work on another novel.
