VJ Books Presents Author Bryan Gruley!

Bryan Gruley was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1957. He wanted to write novels since elementary school when he would read stories that he wrote to his class. He wound up pursuing journalism first, and the delay provided him with some of the life experiences he needed to create meaningful imaginary lives.

Gruley has worked as a golf caddy, a draftsman, and a journalist. Currently he is a reporter-at-large for Bloomberg News and he previously held the position of Chicago bureau chief of The Wall Street Journal. There, he was part of the team that won the Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

In 2009, Gruley published his first novel Starvation Lake, which drew inspiration from his other great passion: ice hockey. He was signed to write a trilogy, and so began his career as a novelist. His books have won him an Anthony and a Barry award, and an Edgar nomination.

Gruley continues to bring his ideas to the page in Chicago, where he lives with his wife, Pam.
