VJ Books presents Reader Reviews: Marilyn!
Marilyn says: "I'm a 5th generation Texan, born and raised in rural Central Texas back in the day of no satellite, cable, or internet. I spent most of my time outdoors, caring for our large menagerie of animals, working in the fields, and exploring the creek and surrounding woods collecting rocks and other artifacts. My indoor-time was spent reading library books and playing the piano. Since I never could sit still while watching television or sports, I learned to knit, crochet, quilt, and sew at an early age. Before we kids were able to read, Mom would read stories to my 2 sisters and me. We were fortunate that the Taylor library opened at that time. Every week My Mom drove 20 miles to the library where we each checked out 5 books per week. The library started in a trailer. When the limestone building was completed 8 years later, the librarian put our picture and story in the local newspaper to promote the new permanent library. I started accumulating books soon after I moved to College Station for grad school. Now my house is overflowing with books. I buy fiction and non-fiction, all genres. As I discover an author I like, I try to collect the author's work. Most of the books I own are used books. I must make room for more books!
I started collecting signed modern first editions a couple of years ago. When traveling, I buy regional signed first editions when I can find them, and I always pack books to read on trips.
My fabric, yarn, and sewing collections rival my book accumulation. I create art quilts and enjoy restoring old quilts.
I was a Customer Service Supervisor for the USPS and retired March 2010 after 25 years of service. My husband and I reside in College Station TX. In addition to reading, I enjoy traveling, art, and antiques. I still play the piano, but now it requires electricity. I am a second generation lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
I still love animals, the outdoors, and the land. I may spend more time away from the farm, but I will always be a country girl.
I've never had a local source for signed first editions. I was delighted to find VJ Books when browsing the Internet. VJ Books is my go-to source for signed first editions. VJ Books is the Best! Happy Reading!"
