James was born (1947) in Kentucky but has lived most of his life in Florida.Originally a poet, he began writing crime fiction in the mid-1980s, publishing his first novel, Under Cover of Daylight, in 1986.Under Cover of Daylight is a murder mystery--starring a Key West fisherman named Thor--and was a well-received beginning to a popular series.
Besides the Thorn books, Hall has written stories and novels of life in South Florida, as well Hot Damn!, a collection of essays.
Hall has earned the Shamus Award for the Thorn novel, Black Water Sound and an Edgar Award (Best Short Story Category) for The Catch.Hall's novels have been Book-of-the-Month and Literary Guild selections.
