Dennis McMillan Publishers and George Pelecanos
Good Morning John:
I have an opportunity to purchase
several
George Pelecanos titles published by Dennis McMillan/
McMillan Publishing. These are NOT the limited/
numbered or limited/ lettered versions though. Rather they are neither numbered nor lettered, however, they are supposed to be limited.
One book is referred to as the trade version of the title. It's referred to as the limited cloth edition and comes with a slipcase. Another is referred to as just the hardcover edition, another as
the Author's Presentation edition w/ slipcase and another
as Publisher's Presentation Copy w/ slipcase.
Are there generally fewer of these in number for a particular
title than the version of the book published the same year by
Little, Brown?
All the McMillan
books I have found, including those on your website, are
referred to as first editions. Did McMillan publish these titles concurrent with the larger publisher (i.e., Little, Brown)? I haven't been able to answer that question with my
Google search.
These seem
like an interesting way to collect certain Pelecanos titles...I am just looking for a bit more information that if I
pick these up they will be considered by most
collectors.
Any information is
helpful. Thank you to you and Virginia as always.
Chris John Replies:
Hey Chris:
Dennis McMillan editions always came
out before the NY publisher editions. Dennis created
beautiful books (all books were short run/limited editions), but
unfortunately he closed up shop a couple of years ago when the
economy tanked.
George Pelecanos was one of McMillan's
regular releases, and they are worth collecting.
Prices do
vary based on which copy you have. You can check out current
values by looking through the books at
www.bookfinder.com.
George Pelecanos limited edition books are available at VJ Books. We also offer limited edition books by other authors.
I
hope this helps.
John
